On boxing day 2004, the unimaginable happened - a powerful tsunami was triggered by the Indian Ocean earthquake which called on many of us already working in the area to rush to Indonesia to help in the international Post-Tsunami reconstruction efforts.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) had a number of reconstruction programs and projects, hence, being already posted in Southeast Asia, I got involved in the 'UNDP Technical Support to the BRR", the Indonesian Reconstruction Agency, with base in Banda Aceh, province of Aceh, at the northern tip of Sumatra.

The two photos below show the situation in the beach area before and after the multi-donor reconstruction activities (housing).
